DocuPet offers a fully outsourced Pet Ownership Program to municipalities and humane society partners to:
- Streamline the pet licencing process to reduce costs through an online registration
- Increase pet licence compliance through an incentive based program
- Promote the local business community through DocuPet's Rewards Program
- Provide tools and education to the pet owner community to encourage responsible pet ownership.

DocuPet has come to an agreement with the Guelph Humane Society to bring its Pet Ownership Program to Guelph. Guelph is the first City DocuPet has launched its program in and we couldn't be more excited! Through this program both dogs and cats can be registered with the Guelph Humane Society.
Licences are valid for 365 days. You will receive a renewal notice when your licence has expired (365 days from purchase).
Currently cats are NOT required to be registered by the City of Guelph as it is not a part of the bylaw. The Guelph Humane Society (GHS) has taken the initiative to provide voluntary cat registrations through DocuPet. All proceeds from these registrations go to the GHS.
Pet owners who register their pets will have access to the features associated with our program that are outlined below.
Your pet registration includes the following:
- Unique Pet Tag: Each tag has a unique ID code that is specific to your pet and the Guelph municipality. The tag is linked to your pet’s online profile through this unique ID code.
- Online Profile: The online profile allows you to store secondary contact information, additional pet information and a photo of your pet. Here you can choose what information is visible to the public through your privacy settings.
- Lost Pet Program: If your pet goes missing sign into your online account and report them lost. This sends a notification to the local shelter and local pet owners who have opted in to receiving lost pet notifications.
- Free Ride Home Program: Whenever possible, the GHS will return identified pets back to their homes- free of charge! Make sure your pet is eligible for our Free Ride Home program by registering them today.
- DocuPet Rewards Program: When you register your pet(s) you will receive an annual rewards card. Local businesses have offered deals to DocuPet Rewards Card Holders! View deals offered to you here. You can redeem deals you see online by showing your Rewards Card as you check out at participating locations.
You can register your pets online here and at the Guelph Humane Society. Additionally, dogs can be registered at Service Guelph. You can no longer purchase registrations at vet and pet store locations.

With the exception of a required email address for registering online the information requirements have not changed. You can choose to add extra information about your pets in their online accounts including photos!
Currently you can only register your pet for one year at a time. Sorry!
Starting in 2016, your registration will expire 365 days from the date of purchase.
We need your email address to create a unique ID for your account and to provide a way for you to verify your account after registration!
If you do not have an email you will need to register your pet(s) in person at the GHS or Service Guelph.
Online: You can pay with MasterCard, Visa, American Express, Discover and Visa Debit
In Person: You can pay with Cash, Debit, Visa Debit, Visa, Mastercard, Cheque or Money Order
By Mail: You can pay with Visa, Mastercard or Cheque
We hope with the added convenience of online registration this will alleviate the need to have someone register your pets for you.
Your pet tag will now come in the mail regardless if you register online, in person at the GHS or Service Guelph. Please allow for 5-10 business days to receive your tag and use your receipt as proof of registration in the meantime!

The goal of the DocuPet Rewards Card is to offset the cost of pet registration. We have close to 30 local businesses offering deals to registered pet owners with more businesses joining each week!
Your pet’s information can be edited on your online profile at any time by logging into your account. If you don’t have access to a computer you can update your pet’s information by visiting the GHS.
You can update this information in your online account, call us at 1-855-249-1370 or email us at email@example.com to let us know of the passing of your pet.
DocuPet is built using modern web technologies and works best with an up-to-date web browser. Updating your web browser is free-of-charge and highly recommended to ensure you stay safe online.
DocuPet tries to ensure that the website is functional with the following minimum browser versions:
- Internet Explorer 10
- Microsoft Edge (any version)
- Firefox 4
- Google Chrome 10
- Safari 5
If you are experiencing problems loading pages, forms or content; please ensure you are running at least the browser versions listed.
DocuPet's Lost Pet Service allows you to control the information that is displayed from your pet's tag and sends alerts to local pet lovers who want to be part of the program and the City of Guelph!
You control the information included in a Lost Pet Alert through your "Lost Pet" privacy settings. These privacy settings can be edited at any time from within your online profile. During the process of reporting your pet lost you will be asked to review this information and can edit it if necessary.
As a member of the Lost Pet Brigade, you are not obliged to do anything at all, but if you are available to help and see that the pet was last seen in your area, we would hope that you would take the time to look around your immediate vicinity. This is your way of "paying it forward" should you ever need the assistance of the Lost Pet Brigade yourself!
Report your pet lost by logging into your account at guelph.docupet.com/login. The first page you see has a list of your licensed pet(s) and beside each pet is a "Report Fido Lost" button. You should always check with the Guelph Humane Society as well.
You are always in control of what information is visible to the public through your pet's tag. Go update your privacy settings by logging into your account at guelph.docupet.com/login and click "Privacy Settings" on the far left-hand menu.
If you licensed your pet in person you can gain access to your online account by going to guelph.docupet.com/activate-my-account.
The City of Guelph is trained to look up pet IDs when lost pets arrive. They will contact you should your pet arrive at the pound even if you haven't issued a Lost Pet alert. Your pet must be licensed with the City to receive this service.
When you log into your account, the first page you see has a list of your licensed pet(s) and beside your lost pet will be a "Report Fido Found" button.
When you report your pet found we will inform everyone within the lost pet brigade, remove your pet's profile from the "Lost Pet's" page and breathe a big sigh of relief!
Please! Because we engage a whole community of pet lovers when you report your pet lost and we appreciate being updated as soon as possible when your pet is found so we can let everyone know the search is off.
Please get in touch with us! We stand by the quality of our tags and if yours has worn within one year of purchase and is no longer legible we will replace it free of charge once provided with proof of the wear.
